Today’s guest post comes from business coach Pamela Bruner, someone I recently discovered
. Pamela offers a combination of mindset and marketing that I have not seen anywhere else. I will be interviewing her on Tuesday, March 30, on a free teleseminar, and I invite you to join us. Just click here to register and get the call-in info.
Are you willing to receive help?
Most of us would immediately answer ‘yes’ to this question. Of course we’re willing to receive help and we’d love some feedback. But how many times in your business have you said, “I should be able to figure this out on my own?” This desire to “go it alone” is a common quality among entrepreneurs so it’s not surprising that you’ve felt this way.
Many entrepreneurs realize they need help with the business side of business: writing copy, building a list or choosing the right keywords. However, they often don’t realize they might need help dealing with blocks and resistance – whatever holds you back from taking effective action in your business.
Can you relate to these examples:
– You can’t pick up the phone to follow up with people
– You dread the days you have to send out promotional information to your list
– You’re uncomfortable talking about what you do
– You avoid networking events like the plague
– You feel so stressed and overwhelmed, you feel paralyzed so you don’t take any action
You are not alone. Every entrepreneur I know has been there. But it’s not part of “real business” so most entrepreneurs think, “It’s not a big deal. I can figure it out on my own.” Then they invest time, energy and money to get insights and ideas that are hard to translate into productive actions that bring results.
They say things like:
“I just need to…
…push myself harder
…get another system
…grit my teeth and suffer through it
…summon up more willpower
…find the magic bullet
…stop procrasting and being so lazy
Worse, they beat themselves up, which makes them feel more frustrated and starts the cycle all over again.
Here are some suggestions for discovering what’s really going on:
Ask yourself “What thought, and what feeling, come up when I imagine doing this?” The answers may surprise you.
Ask a mastermind group or accountability partner to call you on your “stuff”
Work with a coach who can help detect your blind spots
Sign up for a program specifically designed to help you identify and overcome blocks
Bottom line: You need to discover what’s stopping you, and remove it. If you want to be successful, this is non-negotiable. In my experience, you will find a way to sabotage yourself if you don’t clear these blocks.
