The Anti-Copywriting Scammy Promise

My email inbox is filling up with scammy promises to end your copywriting worries forever. It’s simple, they say. Just set up a video. One prominent marketer actually promised, “Just put up some PowerPoint slides and start talking.”

Yeah, right.

First, the marketer delivered a polished, scripted sales pitch ti promote his own product. Surprise, surprise: You can buy a guidebook to create your own video sales letters and never write copy again. Of course , videos work only if you know just a few things to do…

Ho hum. This pitch (which no doubt was created by a copywriter, or by someone trained in writing copy) goes on and on. I shut it off after a few minutes to escape the irritating sound of the seller’s voice.

The truth is…you need copywriting for videos as well as pages. I’d say copywriting is even more important because if you’re not careful, you sound like this guy. You get a pushy used car type sales pitch that feels een more irritating because it’s invaded your own home. Like fingernails on a blackboard.

Copywriting will always be with us, whether you write your own, hire someone from Craigslist, or work with a copywriter who’s been there and done that.

Thanks, Cyntha! I agree 100% – it’s rarely that easy. Thanks for the compliment, too!

I agree with you. I get so tired of hype. I don’t even start the video, I just delete the email. I believe in the saying “If it was this easy, then anyone could do it”. It isn’t and their one course will not make it any easier.

You have been there and done that and write good copy.
